Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups green beans (fresh, frozen, or canned)
  • 3 cups chicken broth (omit if using canned green beans)
  • 2.5 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 cup diced onions
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 10.5 ounces cream of mushroom soup
  • 2.8 ounces french fried onions (divided)
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (divided)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large saucepan, bring chicken broth to a boil; add green beans and cook for about 10 minutes (20 minutes for softer beans). Skip this step if using canned beans.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat; sauté onions and mushrooms for about 1-2 minutes until soft.
  4. Combine sautéed mixture with cream of mushroom soup in a bowl; stir in green beans, garlic powder, black pepper, half of the fried onions, and half of the cheese until mixed well.
  5. Pour into a greased casserole dish and bake for about 20 minutes or until hot and bubbling.
  6. Top with remaining cheese and fried onions; return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
